Education for Underprivileged Children in Yumbe District
CCEDUC, in partnership with UWEZO Uganda, conducted annual learning assessments in households across Yumbe District in 2018. The findings revealed that many underprivileged children do not attend school and lack access to basic numeracy and literacy skills. This challenge disproportionately affects girls.
Key findings included:
Long distances to the nearest school discourage regular attendance. Poor parental care, with girls often required to care for younger siblings. High levels of household poverty, limiting families’ ability to support their children’s education. As a result, CCEDUC, together with German University volunteers, visited these children and took immediate action. They established Care Nursery and Primary School to bring education closer to the most deprived communities and ensure children—especially girls—gain access to early learning opportunities.
